The Yorkie is well known as a beloved and popular companion. A big dog in a small package, the breed is affectionate, energetic, courageous, and determined. The willful and sometimes endearing stubbornness of the breed makes him well loved and adored worldwide. He will dutifully follow you around the house one minute and disappear to get into a bit of mischief the next. Small enough to be litter box trained and versatile enough to fit into many different lifestyles, the Yorkie is both a lapdog enjoying life in your arms, and an active playmate, enjoying a good game of fetch or catch me if you can. His innocent face hides his curious nature, and his sweet personality overlaps his ability to be an ever-alert watchdog.

The Yorkie coat is soft and silky, he is considered to be both non-shedding and hypo-allergenic, making him a great choice for many allergy sufferers.

Caring for the coat is simple enough with brushing to prevent matting and the occasional bath. Many pet owners opting to trim the coat short occasionally to make it easier to brush. Coloring includes black/gold, black/tan, blue/gold, and blue/tan. As puppies the breed is always black, with coloring changing as they mature. Tails are docked short, and ears usually stand erect when fully grown. Average lifespan is 12 - 16 years.
