This American bred, non-sporting breed was developed specifically as a companion pet and he excels at his job. Typically, between 10 and 25 pounds with 3 different weight divisions for the show ring, the Boston Terrier is stocky, handsome, and sweet. The Boston is intelligent, happy-go-lucky, with a sophisticated look of nobility, that loves people. The breed is extremely adaptable to almost any lifestyle, does not require a lot of space or exercise and is known to be quiet, making him an ideal choice for urban living. A properly socialized Boston is extremely loyal and loving towards his family and good with other pets. Although they don't require a lot of exercise, the breed loves to partake in many activities including fetch, swimming, hiking, and obedience training.
The coat of a Boston is easy to care for since it is a short coat with minimal shedding, requiring only regular brushing sessions and the occasional bath to remove any dead hairs. Coloring is beautiful on this breed and is often referred to as a tuxedo as the dark coloring with white trim makes him look as if he is dressed to enjoy a night out on the town. Colors of the Boston include brindle/white, black/white, or seal/white with symmetrical or asymmetrical markings with a short, corkscrew tail. Ears usually stand erect and are either natural OR cropped to maintain the standing. The breed enjoys a lifespan of 12 - 16 years.
As this is a brachycephalic (short faced) breed, it is important to understand the needs of this type of breed prior to purchase to ensure that this breed suits your lifestyle and climate, and to provide proper care during hot weather or excessive activities for the health and wellbeing of the dog.
