The Shorkie also known as a Yorkietzu is a giant breed stuffed into a little toy package! This designer crossbreed is the result of a Shih Tzu parent and a Yorkshire Terrier parent, and it has the spunky attitude to show for it. These tiny dogs are super alert, which means they’ll let you know if there is company at the door or if the wind blows.

These tiny dogs are super alert, which means they’ll let you know if there is company at the door or if the wind blows.

Though Shorkies are intelligent and eager to please, they can also be stubborn, much like their Shih Tzu parents. They also have short attention spans which can be problematic at times. Patiences with these pups is essential to their training, as is early socialization to prevent “small dog syndrome.” In addition to patience, Shorkies also respond to exuberant praise and treats.

Shorkies tend to become very clingy. If clingy behavior isn’t nipped in the bud, it can cause severe separation anxiety and depression, as well as jealousy and other behavioral issues. Crate training from a young age will help the Shorkie develop independence. However, they still should not be left alone for extended periods of time.

Shorkies are energetic and playful, but don’t need much exercise. Brisk walks, interactive playtime and mental stimulation is all their smart little brains and bodies need to stay healthy and happy.
