The Westie is a tough little guy but, in his case, looks can be deceiving since his bright white coat and sweet expression lends many to believe that the Westie is a lap dog. Tough and rugged, the Westie can handle anything life throws his way. Playful, sporting, happy, sweet, the breed is adaptable and ready to share his day with his family. A good watchdog and good with children, the Westie makes for a loyal and delightful companion.
The Westie is white in color and his coat is both minimal shedding and hypo-allergenic, making the breed a good choice for allergy sufferers. His coat is typically coarse, but can also be soft, always white in color, medium in length with a shaggy appearance if left natural. Grooming is easily accomplished by frequent brushing sessions to prevent matting. Clipping or stripping of the coat is optional and many pet owners keep the coat shorter to make for ease of care.
