Victorian Bulldog Breed Information
Sometimes referred to as the Olde Victorian Bulldog, he is a re-creation of an extinct dog. The Victorian was developed in the 1980's by a breeder trying to bring back the old style of Bulldog from the Victorian era. The Victorian Bulldog closely resembles an English Bulldog but with longer legs and more squared body. The breed typically stands 16 - 19 inches tall at the shoulders (withers) and weighs 50 - 75 pounds.

The breed is imposing to look at with a fierce expression, but are loyal, happy, and loving dogs. They do not require a lot of exercise and are happy in a variety of lifestyles, both urban and rural. Regular exercise for the breed consists of walks around the neighborhood and some games of fetch. As with most bully breeds, they do not do well in the heat, and are prone to heat exhaustion. Air conditioning in the warm weather months and remaining indoors during the heat of the day except for housebreaking needs is recommended. Due to their loose jowls, the breed does drool a bit, especially after drinking water.
The coat of the Victorian Bulldog is short and very easy to care for. Brushing occasionally to remove dead hairs and a bath is all that is needed to keep shedding to a minimum. Wiping and cleaning inside the folds/wrinkles on his face is recommended to prevent skin infections from developing. Average lifespan is 10 - 12 years.
