The Toy Aussie can be shy and territorial around strangers, making it a protective breed. Proper socialization and training early on will keep this breed in line with its usual kind-hearted nature. Although they are the smallest variant of the Aussie Shepherd, they still require a lot of exercise and space to run. They come from a long line of working-class dogs, and so they do best when they have daily tasks to perform.
These dogs are best suited for cooler climates as they have thick, double-coats that shed twice a year. By nature, the Aussie is eager to please and learns fast. They love a challenge, and without proper training and a job to do, they will become bored and resort to destructive behavior. Luckily, these dogs are incredibly easy to train due to their natural eager to please attitude. They are very loving, loyal, and devoted to their families, and may develop separation anxiety if left alone for long periods of time.
