Peke-A-Chons are intelligent, making training a breeze as long the owner is consistent and uses positive reinforcement methods. This breed makes for a good watchdog, however, if not trained properly they will bark extensively. They should be trained to limit their barking, especially if living in an apartment. Proper socialization from early on is also a necessity as these little dogs have big personalities and may display “small dog syndrome” when confronted with other pups.
The Peke-A-Chon is energetic and playful, but does not require large amounts of exercise to stay healthy. Short, daily walks and interactive playtime will keep them relaxed and happy. This breed is sensitive to heat and has a tendency to wander. It’s important to take them out before the sun gets too hot and never let them off their leash. They’re also prone to separation anxiety and shouldn’t be left alone for long periods of time.
