Like his larger version, this breed has strong ties to being an active, working breed but he is versatile enough to be a devoted house companion. He is an excellent choice for farm dog work throughout the world as well as agility, obedience, herding, flyball, and many other dog sports.

This breed will excel in any job given to him. Known as energetic, smart, and loyal, this breed is shockingly intelligent and eager to please his master. The Mini Aussie is a great jogging companion, loves to swim, hike, and is always up for a good game of fetch. It is said that a tired Mini Aussie is a good Mini Aussie. The breed is known to be devoted family dogs that love their family and generally do well with children and other pets. They do well in a variety of environments, cold or warm weather, apartment or home, single owner or large family, and bond deeply with their family.

Colors vary greatly from solids to merles of both red and blue, and tricolors. Shedding is considered to be moderate, and the coat can be maintained through regular grooming sessions with a good brush to prevent matting and keep the coat in good condition. Ears can be down or stand erect, tails can be naturally long or bobtail.
