Original Use: Companionship

The Maltipoo is a cute and cuddly designer crossbreed whose parents are the Maltese and the Poodle. Since the Poodle comes in various sizes, the Maltipoo can as well. Maltipoos were meant to be a hypoallergenic breed, however this won’t always be the case due to the nature of their parents. It’s recommended that allergy sufferers spend time with their intended Multipoo before bringing them into the home to make sure their symptoms don’t flare up.

Maltipoos are intelligent but sensitive. They’re highly trainable, but won’t respond well to harsh training methods. Positive reinforcement and a firm, consistent hand is all that’s needed. In addition to being fast learners, Maltipoos also excel in obedience and agility training. They can also be trained as therapy dogs. Although Maltipoos are energetic, they only require exercise in the form of short walks and interactive playtime.

This breed is generally calm and easy going. They make wonderful family companions and get along well with children that understand how to handle small dogs. They tend to become extremely attached to their owners, and therefore suffer from separation anxiety. If left alone for too long they may become depressed, causing self-harm such as pulling on their own coats and chewing on their own skin.
