Please read the following!

A Foster Home is a temporary home for a dog until our organization finds a permanent home for the dog.

Thank you for offering to become a foster home for our organization! To be considered as a foster home for our organization, you must:

  • Be 21 years of age or older.
  • If you rent, you must have written consent from your landlord to have a dog.
  • Have all dogs and cats in the home spayed or neutered, if they are 6 months or older, unless there are medical reasons for not doing so.
  • Have all dogs/cats in the home up to date on vaccinations.
  • Agree to have a home visit done by one of our volunteers. The volunteer will need to see the areas of the home where the dog will be allowed and also visit with family members and current pets. Distance is a factor in whether or not the required home visit can be completed. We are a 100% volunteer run organization. Some areas and timeframes may be difficult for us to locate a volunteer to conduct the home visit. We will let you know ASAP if your application needs to be denied due to our inability to find a volunteer to conduct the home visit. Attach picture of yard with application.

You must also agree to the following conditions, which are included in the foster home agreement contract:

  • Agree to have the dog wear a rescue ID tag on its collar at all times when in public or outdoors.
  • Agree to never allow the foster dog to be off leash when it is outdoors, unless it is in a securely fenced in area.
  • Agree to have the foster dog reside in the home, not outside. The foster dog may NOT be left outdoors if you are not at home. This includes outdoor kennel runs.
  • Agree to never allow foster dog to be left unattended with young children.

Our rescue foster home organization is a volunteer organization. For each application we receive it takes us time to review, contact all personal and veterinary references, and make a decision on approval of it. Depending upon volunteer availability, this can take us time to accomplish, especially when we receive many applications or if we have difficulties reaching references.

If you feel comfortable providing a temporary home to a foster animal in need through our organization after reading through the application, please print out the foster home application and fill it out in full. Please submit the application in person or by mail for consideration and include any additional supporting information such as letter of approval from landlord, current pet vaccination records, recommendation letter from veterinarian or other foster care program, etc. You will be contacted as soon as possible once all information has been reviewed.

The adoption Center determines the criteria for fostering, deciding which animals are eligible for foster care, and appoint foster caregivers from a pre-approved list of providers. Our staff will inform the foster parent of any medical treatments to be administered, the anticipated length of the foster-care period, the objectives of each particular placement (restoring to health, rearing to adoptable age, socialization, etc.), and any other restrictions or expectations we may have. The foster parent will be expected to keep the foster animal safe and secure, return it to us when requested to do so, and not promise the foster animal to anyone, or imply that you have the authority to approve a potential adoption. We retain ownership of all animals placed in foster care, and will make all decisions regarding the adoption & placement of the animals fostered. Do to a limited foster care program, we cannot accommodate people fulfilling court-ordered community service within the Foster Care Program. We do not accept into this program those convicted of violent crimes or crimes involving animal cruelty or neglect. Unless otherwise arranged, the foster parent is responsible for providing all appropriate food, litter, bedding, and toys for the foster animal while it is in their care at home. The foster parent is responsible for transporting the foster animal for veterinary appointments, surgery, behavior evaluations, vaccinations, adoption events, etc., at the Foster Care Coordinator’s discretion. Upon return of your foster animal to us, you will be required to fill out a brief questionnaire about your foster animal’s behavior and personality.
