Originally bred in England by the Reverend John Russell and used as a hunting dog, the breed, often referred as a JRT or Jack is a tough, active, hardy dog that is ready to accomplish pretty much any task you ask of him. Having a long standing history of roles in both movies and television, the Jack has been adored by celebrities and aristocrats alike including big names such as Mariah Carey, Prince Charles, Bette Midler, Audrey Hepburn, and Paul McCartney. He stands between 8-14 inches tall at the shoulder and 10-20 pounds, the Jack is a tenacious and energetic dog that excels in most activities and sports due to his incredible stamina and endurance.
The Jack makes for a very fun companion dog. He is extremely smart, adaptable, and does well in just about any climate and living situation as long as he is provided with both mental and physical stimulation and exercise. He loves the outdoors but would be just as happy playing fetch or learning new tricks inside on a rainy day. This breed does best when paired with an active family or person that is looking for a dog to share activities with. The Jack makes for an excellent jogging or hiking partner, and is a willing participant in flag football with the kids or swimming at the lake. This is a silly dog that loves to be in the middle of the action.
