English Springer Spaniel

The Springer is listed in the Sporting group, originally bred in England for hunting, and is a medium sized breed, standing 18-22 inches tall at the shoulder and weighing 35-55 pounds. The Springer is a happy dog that is ready for fun and enjoys outdoor activities.

The Springer is an intelligent breed, loyal and sweet, and ready for adventure. This breed is best suited for an active lifestyle and enjoys hiking, jogging, Frisbee and fetch, and of course swimming. The breed does have a bit of a stubborn streak and does best in a home where the owner spends time providing both mental and physical exercise on a consistent basis. Generally known to be good with children and other animals, the Springer should be properly socialized and trained to ensure he is a happy house dog. The breed is alert, athletic, and active, and thrives in either a suburban or rural setting with an average lifespan of 10-15 years.

The Springer is noted for his gorgeous soft coat with beautiful feathering and long flowing ears. His coloring is either liver/white, black/white, or tri-colored and is of medium length, requiring regular brushing sessions to prevent matting, along with the occasional bath to maintain his coat in good condition. Professional grooming is optional and unnecessary, and shedding is moderate. This spaniel has the typical soft, short coat with feathering on the legs, ears and chest that is easy to groom and sheds minimal.Professional grooming is optional.
