Coton De Tulear- pronounced: Cotawn Day Two Lee Are, is originally from Madagascar as a companion dog that is listed in the non-sporting group. The Coton is a small, white, bi-color, or tri-colored breed, with an average weight is 8-20 pounds and standing between 8-15 inches at the shoulder, with a average lifespan of 14-18 years. This little cotton ball makes a great companion as he is adaptable and happy in almost any lifestyle where he is loved and can play.
The personality of the Coton is that of a happy-go-lucky little dog that lives life to the fullest and never has a bad day. He can be happy in an urban high rise apartment building with litterbox training or in a suburban backyard playing with the kids. The Coton is smart and eager to learn, and does well in a multitude of activities and dog sports where he can happily perform for his owner or the crowds. The breed is happy wherever people are and generally does well with both children and other pets.
The coat of the Coton is white, bi-colored, or tri-colored, with a soft cotton coat that is long and flowing. Grooming is accomplished by frequent brushing to prevent matting as well as having the occasional, professional grooming appointments to trim the coat as recommended to keep the coat in optimum condition. Cotons shed very little if at all, and are considered by many to be hypo-allergenic, making them a good choice for many allergy sufferers.
